Img202.png 2012 Youth Leadership Conferences - Youth Projects for Valley of Rainbows

  • January 26, 2012 (Thursday) Dawn of a New Era Girls Conference at Aulani, a Disney Resort for sixth grade female students from Nanakuli, Nanaikapono, Mai'ili, Leihoku, Waianae and Makaha Elementary Schools. This special conference is sponsored by Dawn Farm-Ramsey, a special friend of youth. Her vision is to provide positive female role models and a strong support structure to motivate young women and enhance their leadership abilities, promote self-discovery, respect for diversity, knowledge to make healthy and wise decisions and provide opportunities for civic and community engagement.  By special invitation only.

Special people joining us and sharing their experiences:  Trini Kaopuiki, KHON2 Weather Anchor and previous Miss Teen and Miss Hawaii; Celine Nelsen, President/Founder of Pacific Leadership Partners; Candy Suiso, Executive Director at Searider Productions/Waianae High School and previously awarded Teacher of the Year; Leilani Holbron (owner and cosmotologist) and Janelle Kawai (esthetician intern) with LH House of Beauty; Naleisha Pelekai-Wai former International Cinderella Miss; Dr. Kozue Kawakubo, dentist; Linda Kaauwai, dental hygienist and Rachel Pruzak, Nurse Practioner from Waianae Coast Comprehensive Health Center; Jan Shimabukuro-Lee, Counselor at Leeward Community College

 

April 12, 2012 (Thursday) 8th Annual Youth Leadership Conference for high school students, grades 9-12, from Nanakuli, Waianae and Kapolei High Schools.  Check with your school counselor for registration forms and additional information.  WHS - Ms. Janice Uemori and/or Mr. Shane Nakamura; NHIS- Ms. Jean Nishi and KHS- Ms. Lolita Takeda.

DATE:           Thursday, April 12, 2012

PLACE:         Hawaii Convention Center and Sheraton Waikiki Hotel

TIME:            7:15 a.m. – 5:30 p.m.   (Report to school by 7 a.m.)  Breakfast provided.                      

 

SHUTTLE:    Bus will pick up from each school, starting at 7:15 a.m. and return no later than 5:30 p.m.

FOR:              150 students & chaperones from Nanakuli High and Intermediate School, grades 9-12

                        150 students & chaperones from Waianae High School – All Academies, grades 9-12

                          50  students from Kapolei High School, grades 9-12

                          

COST:            FREE!  Includes attendance at National College Fair with over 300+ college representatives from across USA, transportation in an air conditioned charter bus, breakfast and buffet lunch, College Resource Handbook, event shirt, backpack, favors and amenities.  Conference hosted by Making Dreams Come True, Valley of Rainbows and our corporate funders.

 

PURPOSE:    To share the importance of higher education, assist students with college/career planning and provide resources to achieve goals.  Also includes National College Fair exhibit.

                       

WHO SHOULD ATTEND:   Students interested in a college education and desire to be better, school administrators, counselors and teachers.  Preference will be given to those who have not attended previous conferences and grades 9 & 10 students.  Best behavior expected throughout conference!

 

DRESS CODE:         An event shirt will be distributed at the conference which must be worn throughout the college fair, conference and while at the hotel.  Please dress appropriately.  All cell phones in quiet mode.  Please no MP3 players during conference.

BRING: Your positive attitude and good manners.  Don’t forget to turn in registration and Student Permission Form by 3/30/12 and pre-register at www.nacacnet.org to avoid long registration lines.
