Online Career and
College Assessment Tool

Valley of Rainbows is pleased to announce their newest
program to assist with college and career planning. Contact
Valley of Rainbows to obtain your free batch codes to begin using
the online software from Kuder Systems. Log on to and take three assessment surveys - skills, interest
and experience to assist in your college and career goals.
Based on the information shared on the assessment, the Kuder system
will help you plan your next steps. College links, resources,
application deadlines and required class courses provided through
the system. It's easy, free and a great tool as you begin
planning for your future. Students as young as 5th grade are
able to use this software, including adults returning to work or
wanting to change careers. This profile will remain with you
throughout your lifetime as long as you review at least once a

access for your use: Waianae District Park, Oahu WorkLinks at
Satellite City Hall, Queen Lili'uokalani Children's Center, all

PROGRAMS WE'VE FUNDED Supporting Youth - Our
Monthly Scholarship Program
Since 1999 we have
provided scholarship funds to 1933 Leeward Coast youth to attend and
cover costs for: Summer School Fees, WHS Searider Production
competition to China, Computer classes, Project Graduation, Pop
Warner & Big Boys Football, Cheerleading Camps, Canoe
Paddeling, Surf Contests, Tahiti Fest, Merrie Monarch participation,
Keiki Hula Competition, Little Miss Competition, Konishiki Kids to
Japan, baseball, soccer, bowling, swimming, golf, ballet, piano,
sewing, music, art lessons, Girl/Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Brownies
and so much more. If you have a child interested in
participating in an organized activity and need financial
support, pick up an application today. Funds are paid direct
to supporting agency. Applications should be postmarked
by the first Monday of each month and sent to PO Box 1009, Wai'anae,

YOUTH
LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE - High School and Middle School
The 8th Annual Youth Leadership
Conference is scheduled Thursday, April 12,
2012. Students will attend the National College Fair at
Hawaii Convention Center then proceed to the Sheraton Waikiki
for the Youth Leadership Conference and lunch.
The focus of the
conference is to assist high school students begin planning for
college and prepare for SAT testing, learn more about the financial
aid process, and how to choose the right career path to reach
their educational goals. Over 350 high school students
from Nanakuli, Wai'anae and Kapolei High School are invited to
attend this all day educational (free) conference. Click here

Youth Leadership Conference was held Thursday, April 14, 2011 at J.W. Marriott Ihilani
Resort & Spa for 100 7 & 8 grade students from Waianae and
Nanakuli Intermediate.

PRESENTATIONS
Upon approval of your application,
Valley of Rainbows will contact you and/or your family member to
attend the monthly award
presentation, held at NFL YET Club at Nanakuli Boys
& Girls Club, the 3rd Tuesday of each month starting at 6
p.m. Must be present to pick up your awards. Parents and
family members are invited to attend. A group photo is
published each month in Westside Stories. Six (6) hours of
community service required to receive future awards. Learn

GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY PROJECTS
About GYSD
Global Youth Service Day is an annual campaign that
celebrates and mobilizes the millions of children and youth who
improve their communities each day of the year through service and
service-learning. Established in 1988, Global Youth Service Day is
the largest service event in the world, and the only day of service
dedicated to children and youth. GYSD is celebrated each year in
over 100 countries.
Each year, millions of children and youth around
the world work together with schools, youth
organizations, nonprofits, community and faith-based organizations,
volunteer and national service programs, government agencies, faith
communities, and other individuals to address the world’s most
critical issues and change their communities on Global Youth Service
Day.
Valley of Rainbows is honored to be selected as the
Lead Agency for the State of Hawaii. Youth inspired projects
include:
- Participation in the Martin Luther King Day Parade, January
17, 2011, Waikiki. Over 200 youth from 4 schools
participated with a marching band, vehicle and marching
unit. Ended with a day of celebration and picnic at
Kapi'olani Park.
- PAIR2CARE Slipper Drive January - February 28, 2011.
Collectively, students collected over 3400 pairs of slippers to
distribute to 17 Waianae Coast schools. (Click

- Relay for Life - March 23, 2012. Youth will raise
awareness about Keeping Healthy and Keiki activities at
the Relay for Life Keiki Tent.
